Monsoon active again in AP

Hyderabad, June 22 (UNI) Bringing cheer to farmers, the southwest monsoon, weak since June eight was active again in Andhra Pradesh today with upper air circulation off the coastal Andhra still persisting.

Hyderabad Meterological office Director Satya kumar told UNI that under the influence of the system in the Bay of Bengal, moderate to rather heavy rain and thundershowers were likely to occur at many places over Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

Light to moderate rain and thundershowers were likely to occur at a few places over Rayalaseema.

He said isolated heavy rain was likely over Coastal Andhra Pradesh during next 48 hours.

The monsoon was vigorous over Coastal Andhra Pradesh. Rain also occurred at many places over Telangana and isolated over Rayalaseema, he added.

A report from Vijayawada said people of the Coastal Andhra region, reeling under oppressive heat for the last few days heaved a sigh of relief with heavy rain lashing the city this evening.

Dummagudem and Koida (both Khammam dist) had a very high rainfall of nine each, followed by Bhadrachalam, Tekkali (Srikakulam dist) and Vizianagaram (Vizianagaram dist) seven each.

The other chief amounts of rainfall recorded in cm were: Cheepurupalli (Vizianagaramdist), Gudivada (Krishna dist), Kunavaram (Khammam dist), Tadepalligudem (West Godavari dist) six each, Kadiri (Anantapur dist) five, Bhimadole (West Godavari dist), Dharmavaram (Anantapur dist), Dubbak (Medak dist), Eturnagaram (Warangal dist), Ranasthalam (Srikakulam dist), Sullurpet (Nellore dist) four each, Visakhapatnam, Gajapathinagaram and Srungavarapukota (both zianagaram dist), Mandasa, Palakonda, Palasa and Sompeta (all Srikakulam dist), Sriramsagar (Nizamabad dist) three each, Anantapur, Kalingapatnam, Banswada and Bheemgal (both Nizamabad dist), Bobbili (Vizianagaram dist), Dowlaiswaram and Rajahmundry (both East Godavaridist), Eluru (West Godavari dist), Jagitiyal&Metpalli (both Karimnagar dist), Kanekal (Anantapur dist), Patapatnam (Srikakulam dist), Proddatur (Cuddapahdist), Puttur(Chittoor dist) two each.
