Shillong, June 21 (UNI) A day after the United People Democratic Solidarity (UPDS) warned the Meghalaya government for ''instigating communal violence'', the Meghalaya police today said it is prepared to meet any eventuality.

In a press statement issued to Asom dailies yesterday, the UPDS warned the Meghalaya government for ''instigating communal violence between two dominant tribes of Karbis and Khasi-Pnar residing along the inter-state boundary with Asom''.

This afternoon, Meghalaya Home Minister Robert Garnett Lyngdoh reviewed the law and order situation along the inter-state boundary with Asom with Director General of Police William Richmond Marbaniang and other senior government officials.

Jaintia Hills district superintendent of police H Nongpluh also held meeting with Diphu counterpart on the presence of the Karbi militants in the bordering areas.

The Asom police have assured the Meghalaya police of a joint exercise to counter the presence of the militants and their activities.

Sources from the police headquarters here said the government has decided to strengthen its security personnel along the inter-state border with Asom to prevent the Karbi militants making Meghalaya as their safe sanctuary.

The UPDS, which reacted to the death of its cadres in an encounter in Meghalaya police recently, said it was prepared to meet the challenge thrown by the Meghalaya police and avenge the death of its two ''martyrs''.
