Lightning toll reaches 52 in Marathwada region
Aurangabad, Maharashtra, June 22 (UNI) The death toll due to lightning in Marathwada region reached 52, with 10 more deaths reported on the sixth day from four of the eight districts of the division today.
According to official sources at the divisional commissionerate here, four people were killed due to lightning in Osmanabad today, followed by Beed (three), Aurangabad (two) and Nanded (one).
With 10 more deaths due to lightning from the region, the death toll reached 52, with Latur registering highest number of deaths at 13, followed by Beed 11, Aurangabad 9, Jalna 7, Osmanabad 6, Parbhani and Nanded 3 deaths each.
As per the information available at the divisional headquarters here, as many as eight people have been injured and several cattle killed or injured in the natural calamity in last six days so far.
Barring Hingoli, rest seven districts of the region have received moderate rainfall today with the division's average rainfall reaching to a comfortable level of 52.6 mm, since beginning of monsoon this year.
According to the rainfall figures of the day, Latur recorded highest rainfall of 18.3 mm, followed by Osmanabad 17.9, Nanded 8 mm, Aurangabad 5.9 mm, Parbhani 5.8 mm, Jalna 3.5 mm and Beed 0.9 mm.
While sowing has picked up well in some areas, farmers were seen engaged in preparations for sowing in the region.
