Kargil hero killed in road accident

Chandigarh, June 22 (UNI) Bikramjit Singh Bajwa, a Kargil hero and District Transport Officer (DTO), Gurdaspur, was killed in a road accident near Kathgarh in Nawan Shahr district this morning when his car collided with a truck.

Bajwa, 30, had shown great courage in Kargil war as a Lieutenant and suffered 60 per cent disability. He was appointed a PCS officer by the state government in recognition of the sacrifices he made in defending the motherland.

He was on the way to Chandigarh to attend an official meeting when the accident occurred.

Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh expressed profound grief over Bajwa's untimely demise, saying ''he was a young and dynamic officer with the qualities of head and heart, who performed his duties with utmost dedication and sincerity''.

Punjab Transport Minister Mohinder Singh Kaypee also mourned Bajwa's death and said the state had now been deprived of the services of a dedicated officer.
