Javid Mir and 20 others arrested in Srinagar

Srinagar, June 22 : Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (Nanaji) convenor Javid Ahmad Mir was today taken into preventive custody alongwith 20 others for violating prohibitory orders near here.

Official sources said the JKLF activists, led by Mir, took to streets at Abiguzar near here today demanding release of all detenues, including Farooq Ahamd Dar alais Beta Karata who completes 16 years in jail today.

As the processionists reached Regal Chowk after marching through Residency Road, police tried to stop them. However, when they refused, Mir and 20 others were put in waiting police vehicles and lodged in police station Kothibagh.

The JKLF activists alleged that hundreds of detenues are languishing in different jails in and outside the state for years without any trail.

Beta Karata was arrested on this day sixteen years ago.
