Govt grants Rs 256.1 cr project for Titanium develpt

Thiruvananthapuram, June 22 (UNI) Kerala Industries Minister Elamaram Kareem today informed the state Assembly that the government had granted administrative sanction for a massive project to overcome the crisis faced by the Travancore Titanium Products Limited here.

Replying to questions by Mr V Chenthamarakshan (CPI-M) and others, he said the Rs 256.1 crore project, aimed at development, diversification and control the pollution of the company would be implemented in two phases.

Expected to be completed in 36 months, the project would require Rs 129.4 crore in the first phase and Rs 126.7 crore in the second phase, the Minister added.

According to the project, three plants in the recovery of acid, coparas and neutralisation would be installed to control the pollution in the factory.

The government would not only take steps to solve the present complaints on pollution but also provide measure for the smooth functioning of the company, he added.
