Farmers' day to be observed annually in K'taka

Bangalore, June 22 (UNI) The Karnataka Government has decided to observe Farmers' day annually from next year to honour ryots, Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy said today.

Speaking at a function got up to distribute awards to those who have excelled in farming here, he said the Government was aware that the farmers were the backbone of economic development of the State and nation.

He stressed the need for development of organic farming in the State.

The awards for 2002-2003 and 2003-2004 were distributed to 82 people. Deputy Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa also attended the function.
