Dalmiya announces CAB meeting, Chakraborty pledges support
Kolkata, Jun 22 (UNI) Even as incumbent CAB president Jagmohan Dalmiya today announced an emergency general body meeting of the state body on July 2 to discuss his candidature in the coming polls, state Sports Minister Subhas Chakraborty indicated that Dalmiya may get the state government's support in the litigations against the BCCI.
As the day progressed events took new twists as Dalmiya called a general body meeting to debate whether he should be standing for the elections or not following Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee's message asking him not to contest the polls.
Dalmiya today said his contesting the CAB elections would depend on the views expressed by the members during the emergent meeting.
Dalmiya met state Sports Minister Subhas Chakraborty yesterday and was informed of the views of the Chief Minister that he should not contest the CAB polls scheduled in July end.
Meanwhile, close aides of Dalmiya today claimed that the man still had an overwhelming support in the CAB.
However, it was Mr Subhas Chakraborty, who again raked up a hornet's nest when he said, ''I have with me the papers of litigations he has with BCCI. If he is found a victim of injustice, I will request the Chief Minister to intervene.'' He thus virtually assured Mr Dalmiya not only the support of the state government but also the Left Front in his lone battle against the BCCI as spoke to the media on the lobby of the Assembly.
The dissidents on their part have not been able to put up a big show as far as numbers are concerned and would be dearly waiting for Saurav Ganguly's letter of support for bolstering their chances.
