Court denies bail in Ishita acid throwing case

Shimla, June 22 (UNI) The Himachal Pradesh High Court today rejected the bail application of the two accused in the infamous ''Ishita acid throwing case'' that rocked Shimla two years ago.

The court, in its order, rejected the bail pleas of Vijay Kumar and Daljit Singh after they approached the court against their conviction by the session's court when the case came up for hearing before a division bench of Chief Justice V K Gupta and Mr Justice Deepak Gupta.

Ishita, a college girl, received serious burn injuries after the two threw acid on a her, while she was on her way to college in New Shimla area of the town on July 12, 2004 after she spurned the advances of one of the accused.

The sessions court had convicted the accused, both residents of Ludhiana in Punjab, to ten years of rigorous imprisonment.

One of the accused, who was her cousin, threw acid on her after she refused to talk to him on that fateful day.
