Contents in MP text books replaced, not removed : BJP
New Delhi, June 22 (UNI) The BJP today denied the Madhya Pradesh government had removed portions concerning country's first Prime Minister Jawahar Lal Nehru in the state text books.
''The state government had merely replaced one letter of Nehru with another,'' BJP Spokesman Prakash Javadekar said, adding that the Congress' allegations that portions concerning Nehru were removed from the text books are ''totally wrong''. He said it was a standard practice to effect changes in the text books every five or six years.
''Nehru's letter to his wife Kamla Nehru was replaced by a letter addressed to the people,'' Mr Javadekar said.
He clarified the step was necessitated due to the need to keep the book size in the range of 100 pages to reduce burden on the students.
''If some new matter was added, it has just substituted the existing contents,'' he added.
