Congress wins 10 ZPTC, 418 MPTC seats without contest
Hyderabad, June 22 (UNI) The ruling Congress won uncontested 418 out of 532 MPTC seats and 10 ZPTC seats for the local body elections in the State, the results of which were declared by the State Election Commission tonight, after the Division Bench of the Andhra Pradesh High Court stayed the Single Judge's order quashing the June 10 poll notification.
The bench cleared the decks for the two-phase polls to Panchayat Raj Bodies on June 28 and July 2. The Congress won an impressive 116 MPTC seats in Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy's home district of Kadapa, while TDP, which has not opened its account so far in ZPTC, got 60 of its nominees elected for MPTC seats. Six CPI and two TRS, both allies of the ruling Congress and five CPI(M), the TDP's poll ally, besides 40 independents won their MPTC seats without contest.
