Congress councillor from Bengal shot dead at Puri beach

Puri, June 22 (UNI) A Congress councillor from Bongaon in North 24-Parganas in West Bengal was shot dead here tonight.

Police said Tapas Mitra was shot dead by an unidentified man while he was on a beach along with about 260 people.

The incident took place between 2130 to 2200 hours and the assailant fled from the scene after the incident, police added.

Police rushed to the spot and took the body to the district headquarters hospital for autopsy.

Details were awaited.
