Cane growers' plea on Minimum Support Price in AP

Vijayawada, Jun 22 : The Federation of Andhra Pradesh Sugarcane Growers Association (FASGA) today asked the Centre to announce a Minimum Support Price (MSP) of Rs 1,400 per tonne for 2006-2007 season.

FASGA Secretary N Satyavenkateswara Sarma in a statement here, the state government should also announce the advisory price for cane by clearing legal hurdles.

Both the Centre and State Governments should announce the extra-price for sugarcane, as per 'Bhargava Formula,' by November 30 and make the payment by December 30.

He said cane growers should have the freedom to make jaggery and sought a suitable legislation for facilitating it.
