Building materials ruling high, says Jaya

Chennai, June 22 (UNI) AIADMK General Secretary J Jayalalithaa today said construction activity in the state had come to a standstill following increase in prices of building materials.

Talking to newspersons at party headquarters here, she said prices of all commodities had risen, particularly the prices of building material in the recent past.

Owing to sharp hike in sand, gravel and cement price, construction activity on both government and private projects had come to a halt, she said, adding, as a result, nearly 10 lakh workers were rendered jobless.

The former chief minister also alleged tht the Cheap rice was being smuggled by ruling partymen and Ministers themselves and only low quality rice, which was not fit for consumption, was being supplied to the poor.
