BJP criticises DDA decision to impose misuser charges

New Delhi, Jun 22 (UNI) Delhi BJP today termed Delhi Development Authority's decision to impose penalty on commercial use of flats as contempt of the decision by the court and the Central Cabinet.

The Centre should immediately suspend the DDA officers who had taken such a decision and also initiate contempt proceedings against them, Delhi Pradesh BJP President Harsh Vardhan said in a statement.

At the time of implementing the Delhi Laws (Special Provision) Act 2006, it was made clear that status quo would be maintained in all the cases of illegal construction and misuse of land till the next year. The Union Urban Development Minister S Jaipal Reddy had clearly announced in a public meeting that not a single citizen in the capital would be subjected to harassment after the enactment of the law, it said.

On the one hand such a law was framed and on the other DDA had decided to impose penalty upto Rs 2.5 lakh on the owners of flats in which commercial activities were going on.

Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly Jagdish Mukhi also said the move had exposed the Congress government's 'dual policy'.

On the one side the union Urban Development Minister had brought a moratorium law for one year giving relief to 25 lakh shopkeepers running their estabilishments from residential areas and on the other hand DDA, which was under the central government, was imposing misuser charges.
