Bench stays single judge order; polls can go on

Hyderabad, Jun 22 (UNI) A Division Bench of the Andhra Pradesh High Court today stayed the single judge's order quashing the poll notification, clearing the way for holding elections to Local Bodies in the State, slated in two phases from June 28 this year.

Chief Justice G S Singhvi and Mr Justice G V Sitapati Rao gave the stay order in the post-lunch session, allowing continuation of the electoral process, which started on June 10 for elections to Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituencies and Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituncies. The process came to an abrupt halt after the June 19 order of single judge Mr Justice P S Narayana, quashing the poll notification on grounds of irregularities in electoral rolls.
