Attack on spiritual leader, 17 injured in Kashmir

Srinagar, Jun 22 (UNI) Unidentified persons today made an abortive bid on the life of spiritual leader Ahad Sahib at Sopore when they hurled a hand grenade towards his house, injuring 17 persons inculding a police guard.

Official sources told UNI that unidentified persons hurled a hand grenade towards the house of Ahad Sahib at Sopore, about 50 km from here in north Kashmir this afternoon at 1345 hours.

They said the grenade exploded near the guest house, causing injuries to 17 persons, including a police guard.

The spiritual leader however escaped unhurt in the attack, sources said.

The injured were admitted to different hospitals.

This was for the first time in the 17 year long spell of militancy that a spiritual leader was attacked in the Kashmir valley.
