Chouhan asks to accelerate dam work

Bhopal, June 22 : The construction of the Bansagar dam in Madhya Pradesh will be completed by September 25 this year and all gates will be fixed.

Power generation will be started after the completion of the dam.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has issued directives to accelerate construction and renovation of all canal systems to ensure expansion of irrigation facilities.

During review of progress of irrigation projects through monitoring software here today, Mr Chouhan said the state government was giving top priority to bring maximum area under irrigation for both Rabi and Kharif crops.

''Efforts on war footing are required to complete all small and major irrigation projects on time'', he said, adding irrigation facilities had been provided to additional 2 lakh hectare.

Mr Chouhan also issued directives to carry out rehabilitation of all dam affected families along with project construction works.

Water Resources Minister Anup Mishra said new projects were being included in the World Bank-aided water sector restructuring project and the Centre's clearance was being sought.
