1500-1600 militants active in JK: Army Chief

Teethwal, Line of Control (LoC), June 22: Army Chief General J J Singh today said about 1500-1600 militants were operating in Jammu and Kashmir while infiltration from across the border also continued unabated.

''About 1500-1600 militants are active in various parts of Jammu and Kashmir,'' Gen Singh told journalists here after inagurating the Teethwal model village.

He also said that the infiltration from across the LoC also continued unabated.

''There is no end to incursions. The militant infrastructure across the LoC is intact. But at the same time, we are determined to foil their every attempt to create disturbances in our side,'' the Army Chief added.

He said the troops had always been alert to foil any attempt from across the border to push militants into Jammu and Kashmir.

''Our efforts are on to check intrusions. Our recent operations to check infiltration have been very successful,'' Gen Singh added.
