Yash Chopra hails Pak lifting ban on Indian actors

Amritsar, Jun 21 (UNI) Celebrated filmmaker Yash Chopra, whose cross-border love story Veer Zaara struck a chord in the hearts of both Indians and Pakistanis, today welcomed Islamabad's move to allow Indian actors to feature in Pakistani films.

''The move will help both the countries to come up with better quality movies, particularly with respect to the depiction of the Punjabi culture in them,'' Chopra said while talking to reporters after paying obeisance at the Golden Temple here.

Chopra came to the holy city a day after he received the Punjab government's newly-instituted 'Punjab Rattan' award in Chandigarh. He was accompanied by his wife Pamela Chopra and actress Mandira Bedi.

To a question, he said he had no plans to make another film like Veer Zaara in order to capitalise on the cross-border sentiment for the subject.

''I have been making films largely depicting the Punjabi culture and milieu and will continue to make such films,'' he added.

Asked whether he would try his hand in making Punjabi films, he replied in the negative. Giving the rationale for his reluctance in this regard, he said the Punjabi language films had a limited reach while the Hindi movies were understood and appreciated all over the country.
