ULFA talks tomorrow

Guwahati, June 21 (UNI) The ULFA nominated Peoples Consultative Group (PCG) today left for New Delhi carrying the hope of people of Asom for an early solution to the vexed ULFA problem, which has been plaguing the state for past three decades.

The PCG and the Union Government will be having their third and possibly last meeting tomorrow where the ground work would be finalized for a direct talk between the ULFA and the Centre in the near future.

The bone of contention is the release of jailed ULFA leaders, which the state government is willing but the Centre is dilly dillying following the recent spurt of killings and bombings.

The PCG yesterday met Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, who assured full cooperation for the success of the peace process and extended his best wishes. He could not attend the meeting as he was indisposed. The Centre's team would be led by National Security Adviser M K Naryuanan.

According to PCG spokesman Arup Borbora, the Chief Minister showed his positive attitude towards the peace process and assured that the State Government would play a positive role for the success of the peace process.

He said the State Government has a vital role to play for the success of the peace process and the Chief Minister today assured to take all necessary steps to make the talks fruitful. ''He told us that because of his ill health, it would not be possible for him to attend the third round of meeting, but senior officials would be sent to attend the meeting of behalf of the State Government,'' Borbora said.
