Two election petitions filed before Kerala HC
Kochi, June 21 (UNI) Two election petitions were filed before the Kerala High Court today seeking to set aside the election of former Revenue Minister K M Mani and Babu M Palissery as MLAs from Palai and Kunnamkulam Assembly constituencies respectively.
In the election petition filed by Mani C Kappen, the defeated NCP candidate in Palai, it was alleged that the affidavit filed by K M Mani along with his nomination was false.
According to the petitioner, Mr Mani suppressed material facts and omitted to mention his dues to the tourism department in the affidavit. But the Returning Officer (RO) improperly accepted the nomination and therefore the election of K M Mani was void under the provision of the Representation of People Act.
Mr Babu M Palissery's election was also questioned on similar grounds by Anil Puranattukara, a voter of Kunnamkulam constituency.
He submitted that the actual name of Babu M Palissery was M Sankara Narayan as per the entry in school certificates, college records and in the voters lists of Kadavallu Panchayat, Ottappalam Lok Sabha constituency and Vadakkanchery Assembly constituency.
Therefore, the nominations filed showing the name Babu M Palissery was improperly accepted by the RO, the petitioner added.
