Transporters threaten strike; demand fare hike
Srinagar, June 21 : Transporters have threatened to go on a strike across Jammu and Kashmir if passenger fares were not hiked immediately.
Besides suspending their services across the state, several transport organisations have also threatened to stop paying taxes to the government if the fares were not hiked.
In a meeting here, the transporters expressed concern over the fresh hike in petrol and diesel prices.
The meeting was attended by the representatives of All Kashmir Transporters Welfare Association, Western Bus Service, KMD Association, Haji Pir Transport Company, Western Motor Transport Company, New Kashmir Transport Company, Star Transport Company and Shahanshah Transport Service.
The meeting unanimously decided that if the government failed to announce an increase in passenger fares, the transporters would suspend their services across the state and stop payment of taxes.
