Transport e-governance centre at Shimla

Shimla, Jun 21 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Transport Minister G S Bali inaugurated the e-Governance centre at Parivahan Bhawan here today.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that the project was sponsored by the Department of Information Technology of the central government with an amount of Rs 1.30 crore. ''Under this project the Transport Department would computerise two Regional Transport Offices (RTO) offices, one State Transport Authority (STA) office and eight other regional offices of Kangra district,'' he said.

He said that the department had computerised six RTO offices out of ten, all eight RTO offices of Kangra district, 11 transport barriers and the remaining four RTO offices had been given hardware/software and computers.

Mr Bali said this computerisation process will help in sharing information and deliver better services to the government and the stakeholders. The project aims to get rid of time consuming processes and to improve the working conditions, he added.

He said that through this project, driving licenses would be computerised through software called 'Sarthi' . Registration of vehicles, issuance of permits, fitness certificates, enforcement of Motor Vehicle Rules and collection of tax would done through the software called 'Vahan'.
