TN Govt orders probe into TTIs

Chennai, Jun 21 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Government today announced constitution of a high-level committee to go into the functioning of large number of private Teachers' Training Institutes (TTIs) started during the previous AIADMK regime.

In a statement here, Chief Minister M Karunanidhi said the committee would be headed by a retired bureaucrat and former Vice Chancellor of Madurai Kamaraj University K Aludaya Pillai.

Former Director of School Education V A Sivagnanam, Former Director of Collegiate Education T Victor, Former Chief Engineer of PWD Department S Jayachandra Mohan and Additional Director of Technical Education S Arumugam would be the members.

Joint Director of School Education Department P Mani would function as the Member-Secretary, he added.

The appointment of a committee followed an announcement made to this effect in the Assembly by Mr Karunanidhi after members wanted the state government to probe the alleged irregularities in the functioning of the private institutes which did not have adequate infrastructure.
