Takeover BMIC project: CPI(M) tells K'taka govt
Bangalore, Jun 21: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) today urged that the Karnataka government should take over the controversial Bangalore Mysore Infrastructure Corridor (BMIC) project from its promoters Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprises (NICE) as huge tracts of land were being grabbed in the name of the project.
Addressing a press conference here, CPI (M) State Secretary G N Nagaraj said the prices of land coming under the project had skyrocketed and there was no need to hand over such huge amount of land to NICE.
He said as the state government had enough expertise to execute such mega projects, it should take it up on its own and implement it.
Mr Nagaraj demanded that the government come out with a white paper on the matter in the wake of the controversial project and related issues leading to a tussle between the ruling coalition partners, JD(S) and BJP, and raising several questions about the intentions of the private promoter.
He alleged that the JD(S) had unwittingly colluded with the BJP and helped the latter win four seats in the recent elections to the Legislative Council for filling three seats each from the Graduates and Teachers constituencies.
''The JD(S) will pay dearly for its actions in the coming days.
The BJP will make inroads into the support base of the JD(S) and ultimately make it a non-entity. The people of the state should take note of this serious development or else it might ultimately lead to a Gujarat-like situation in the state,'' he cautioned.
Referring to the rise in the number of incidents related to atrocities on dalits in the state, the CPI (M) said over 20 such incidents had come to light during the 120-day rule of the JD (S)-BJP combine and demanded an inquiry into it.
He accused the state government of having failed to come to the rescue of the oppressed classes. The party would organise a 'Bangalore Chalo' rally on June 26 to register its protest against such atrocities, he added.
