Step father convicted for raping minor
Mumbai, June 21 (UNI) A local court here today convicted a step father to seven years rigorous imprisonment on charges of raping his minor daughter during 2004 in Trombay.
Additional Sessions Judge Mrs S S Joshi today found Abdul Latif Abdul Shakur Shaikh (33) guilty of the offence which is punishable under section 376 of IPC, and sentenced him to seven years of rigorous imprisonment. The court also slapped a fine of Rs 2000. In default of the fine, he shall further undego RI for six months.
According to Public Prosecutor Mrs Usha Kiran Makasare, the victim and her mother were staying with the accused when she was eight years old. After a few years she lost her mother and continued to stay with her step father. When she reached the age of 13, the step father raped her and threatened not to disclose the incident to anyone.
The accused continued the relationship with the minor whic resulted in her pregnency. When she got pregnant, she told about the incident to her aunt who, alongwith some neighbours took her to police station and registered a complaint against him.
The accused Sheikh has been in the judicial custody since his arrest during 2004.
