Somnath remains non-committal on CAB election issue

Kolkata, June 21 (UNI) Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee categorically refuted having taken any side in the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) election, while CAB president Jagmohan Dalmiya announced that an emergent meeting of the CAB affiliates would be held to take a decision on his contesting the election.

Talking to UNI over phone from the United Kingdom, Mr Chatterjee said, '' I have taken no side in the CAB election. I am not even a voter. My position is absolutely neutral. '' Asked whether he had extended his support, of any form, to any of the groups through a written letter, he said, '' I have just supported Sourav Ganguly's cause so that he could be brought back to the Indian side, but this has nothing to do with CAB election. '' Meanwhile, Dalmiya told UNI, '' I met Bengal Sporth Minister Subhas Chakravarty in the evening and was conveyed the decision of Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee asking me not to contest the election. I have taken a decision to call an emergent meeting of the CAB affiliates and take a decision regarding my contesting the election after talking to them. '' The date of the meeting would be announced tomorrow.
