Shivling tampering row: Shiv Sena demands probe

New Delhi, June 21: The Shiv Sena today demanded a high-level probe into allegations of tampering with the Shivling at Amarnath, while arguing that it was faith in the story behind the cave shrine and not the size of the shivling that mattered to pilgrims.

''The President or the Prime Minister should order an enquiry into the entire episode,'' Delhi unit Shiv Sena chief Jaibhagwan Goyal said in a press statement.

He said it did not matter whether the shivling was small or big.

''The pilgrims have their faith tied to the cave shrine where Lord Shiva had told the story of life to Goddess Parvati,'' he said.

Mr Goyal was responding to reports that an artificial shivling had been erected in the cave shrine since the natural 'lingam' did not form this year due to adverse climatic conditions.
