SAD-BJP conference to highlight Emergence

Jalandhar, Jun 21 (UNI) The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and the BJP will hold a joint conference here on June 26 to highlight the excesses committed during the Emergency imposed in the country by the then Congress government, 25 years ago.

SAD spokesman Daljit Singh Cheema and BJP spokesman Rajendra Bhandari said that SAD president and former Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, BJP general secretary and former Union Minister Arun Jaitley and several other leaders of both the parties would participate in the conference.

The excesses committted during emergency and ''anti people policies'' of the Centre and Punjab Government would be highlighted at the conference, Dr Cheema said.

Claiming that the Amarinder government had failed on all fronts Mr Bhandari said that it had failed to fulfill the commitments made to the people in the ruling Congress' manifesto of the last assembly elections.

He also codemned the present state government for its failure in revocation of octroi and said that if BJP and SAD coalition came to the power after the next elections it would revoke octroi.
