Police gun down wanted criminal

Jaunpur, June 21 (UNI) Police today gunned down a wanted criminal carrying a bounty of Rs 20,000 on his head in Line Bazaar area here.

However, his accomplice managed to escape, police said here.

The slain criminal was identified as Dudhnath Yadav, who had 35 cases of heinous crimes including murder, loot and kidnapping registered against him in Azamgarh, Ghazipur, Jaunpur and Mau districts.

On getting a tip-off, Yadav and his aide -- coming from Pariyawan on a motorcycle -- were intercepted by a joint team comprising special task force (STF) sleuths and local police.

In the ensuing encounter, the wanted criminal was killed.

A pistols and a motorcycle were recovered from the spot.

Meanwhile, the police team was awarded Rs 17,500 by the department.
