Police find dubious package near Iran match

LEIPZIG, Germany, June 21 (Reuters) Police in the World Cup host city of Leipzig said today they cordoned off a street in the vicinity of the stadium where Iran are playing Angola after a suspicious package was found.

''Experts are checking whether it could be explosives,'' a spokeswoman for Leipzig police said, adding that three houses had been evacuated. ''We are not thinking of stopping the game.'' Meanwhile some 250 people gathered in the city to protest against the Iranian government, waving Israeli flags and banners reading ''A warm welcome to the Iranian soccer team! A clear 'no' to anti-Semitic comments from the Iranian President!'' Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has come under fierce criticism around the globe for doubting the Holocaust and his inflammatory remarks about Israel.
