one killed,30 injured in clash in Haryana village

Kaithal, June 21 (UNI) One person was killed and as many as 30 persons injured when police resorted to firing, to check an unruly crowd which went on rampage and set fire to some houses of members of Gosain community and resorted to stone throwing at Badsikri village of Kalayat sub tehsil of this district today.

Reports reaching here said that six persons with bullet injuries were admitted to civil hospital of which two who were in a critical condition were referred to PGI, Chandigarh.The injured included a large number of villagers and policemen.

Reports said that one of the critically injured scummbed to his injuries while on the way to Chandigarh. However the district administration was yet to confirm the death.

As the situation was tense in the village, distirict Magistrate B S Malik, and SP Navdeep Virk are camping at the site of the incident and a large police force had been requisitioned from the neighbouring dictricts.

Police reports here said that the police resorted to firing when the clashing groups began pelting stones at each other and the police party.

According to offical reports, the clash took place when residents of Badsikri and other villages went to take possession of a piece of agricultural land from the other group, which was tilling this land.

The residents of Badsikri claimed that the land in contention belonged to a 'dera' and the village panchayat had recently passed a resolution asking those who were tilling the land to hand it over to the 'dera'.
