New Delhi, June 21 (UNI) The National Agriculture Cooperative Marketing Federation of India (NAFED) today initiated dialogue with overseas suppliers in Sri Lanka for import of vanaspati and other related products under the Free Trade Agreement.

A team of senior officers today left for Lanka to have detailed deliberations with manufacturers of the vegetable fats there and also with the concerned officers of the Government of Sri Lanka.

On return from Sri Lanka, NAFED shall work out detailed modalities for import of vanaspati and other related products from Sri Lanka under Free Trade Agreement, a NAFED statement said.

The move comes after the Directorate General of Foreign Trade made certain amendments in the procedure for import of vanaspati under the Indo-Srilanka Free Trade Agreement (FTA).

As per the latest guidelines, the import of the edible oil including bakery shortening and margarine would now be made only by NAFED.

NAFED is also in talks with domestic major consumers including Civil Supplies Corporation, State Cooperative Marketing Federations and open market.
