Monsoon likely to get stronger
Kolkata, June 21 : It seems Kolkata is getting desperate for the monsoon to arrive, but rain gods are not in a mood to please the people.
The wee hours today experienced a cool weather with a cloudy sky but there was no sign of downpour.
However, there are chances of drizzle in the next few hours.
The Met office has, however, said the weather is expected to remain pleasant for the next 48 hours as there is a possibility of the weak monsoon current over Kolkata getting stronger.
They also said the south Bengal is likely to experience cloudy skies due to the cyclonic circulation over Bay of Bengal and this has started reviving the monsoon current over Gangetic Bengal.
''Kolkatans may experience scattered rainfall during next 24 hours,'' said G C Debnath, Director Regional Meteorological Centre, Alipore. This may bring huge respite to the citizens, added Mr Debnath.
Despite this the Met officials said that the monsoon may not bring a heavy downpour in the Gangetic Bengal in the next two to three days but will cause heavy rainfall in the southern part of the country rather Bengal.
The humidity today was somewhat constant at a maximum of 89 per cent with temperatures recording a high of 34.9 degree Celsius and a low of 28.9 degree Celsius.
