Man gets 7 years RI for raping stepdaughter

Mumbai, June 21 (UNI) A local court here today handed down seven years rigorous imprisonment (RI) to a man for raping his minor stepdaughter during 2004 in Trombay.

Additional Sessions Judge S S Joshi today found Abdul Latif Abdul Shakur Shaikh (33) guilty of the offence punishable u/s 376 of the IPC and sentenced him to seven years rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs 2,000. In default of the fine, he will have to undergo another six months RI.

According to Public Prosecutor Usha Kiran Makasare, the victim and her mother used to stay with the accused since she was eight years old. After a few years she lost her mother. However, she continued to stay with her stepfather. When the victim was 13-years-old, her stepfather raped her and warned her not to disclose the incident to anyone.

The accused continued to rape her she became pregnant after which the victim narrated the incident to her aunt who along with some neighbours took her to police station and registered a complaint against the accused.

The accused Shaikh has been in judicial custody since his arrest during 2004.
