Hurriyat welcomes OIC special envoy on Kashmir
Srinagar, Jun 21: The moderate faction of the Hurriyat Conference, led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, today welcomed the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC) decision to appoint a special envoy on Jammu and Kashmir.
The OIC Contact Group yesterday appointed its Assistant Secretary General, Ezzat Kamil Mufti, as the special envoy on Jammu and Kashmir.
The decision was taken during the 33rd Foreign Ministers three-day meeting of the OIC in Baku, the capital of former Soviet Republic of Azerbaijan. The session began on June 19.
The separatist conglomerate welcomed the appointment of ambassador Mufti as the OIC Secretary General's Special Representative on Jammu and Kashmir.
The moderate Hurriyat Conference had sent its representative advocate Mohammad Ashraf Lone after the Mirwaiz was unable to attend the meeting due to prior commitments.
The Hurriyat Conference enjoys an observer status in the OIC.
Advocate Lone apprised the participants at the OIC Contact Group meeting about the ongoing dialogue process aimed at finding a lasting and peacful solution to the vexed Kashmir issue.
Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) President Sardar Muhammad Anwar Khan and Tahir Masood of the PoK chapter of the APHC also took part in the meeting.
