Haryana PR officers asked to publicise govt policies

Chandigarh, June 21 (UNI) Haryana Chief Parliamentary Secretary Dharambir Singh today called upon senior officers and District Public Relations Officers (DPROs) to effectively publicise the policies and programmes of the state government.

Presiding over a meeting of the DPROs here to review the working of the Public Relations Department, he said as a number of prestigious projects are being implemented in the Naional Capital Region (NCR), the press releases should be issued not only in Hindi alone, but also in English. He directed the Deputy Directors posted in the NCR region to ensure extensive press coverage in their respective districts.

He also stressed the need to revive the process of sending the confidential report to the higher authorities. Mr Singh urged the DPROs to maintain cordial relations with mediapersons and work as a bridge between the media and the administration.

He also directed the DPROs to apprise the farmers about the compensation which had been increased manifold. He also suggested them to give effective publicity to the prestigious BML Hansi-Bhutana Multipurpose Link canal being constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 260 crore which would ensure equitable distribution of water in southern Haryana.

Financial Commissioner and Principal Secretary, Public Relations Department, Mr Sanjay Kothari emphasised the need that as per the norms, 20 per cent of the total budget should be utilised by June 30. He assured that all the vacant posts of the department would be filled up soon for the smooth functioning of the department.

The Media Advisor to Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Mr Sunder Pal Singh directed the DPROs that efforts should be made to apprise the people living in rural areas about the welfare schemes of the government. He said the government had implemented a number of schemes especially for the benefit of poor people and the people belonging to lower strata of the society. However most of them were still not aware of these schemes, he added.

Mr Pal also directed the DPROs to involve the Panchayat Department for making effective publicity of schemes related to Panchayati Raj Institutions. He also suggested that exhibitions be organised in big villages by displaying hoardings highlighting the achievements of the government.
