Get pets treated at Super Speciality Hospitals

Thiruvananthapuram, June 21 (UNI) Pet animals will also be given medical treatment at 'super speciality hospitals' in Kerala.

The veterinary hospitals in the state are being transformed into 'super speciality hospitals' with all modern facilities, including in-patient treatment.

''The first modernised hospital, will be set up in Thiruvananthapuram. In the other 13 districts, they will be set up according to the availability of funds,'' State Animal Husbandry Director R Vijaya Kumar told UNI.

He said a project for modernising the district veterinary centres had been submitted and the state government has agreed to it in principle.

This project proposes to transform the existing veterinary centres in all the districts into super speciality hospitals, he added.

''As of now, the veterinary hospitals in the state do not have facilities for providing quality treatment for animals. We do not have any modern equipment for diagnosis, '' he said and added that the new ''animal homes'' would have all the modern facilities.

About the facilities to be provided at the hospitals, Mr Kumar said a lab with all modern diagnostic equipment, in-patient facilities, R&D facilities, resident services and library would be made available.

Noting that the super speciality''animal hospital'' was being developed in accordance with the super specialty hospital for humans, he said it would have facilities for Ultra Sound, Scan, ECG and also a modern operation theatre. There would be resident services with one veterinary doctor available throughout the night.
