Fresh batch of 2286 pilgrims leave for Amarnath

Jammu, June 21 (UNI) A fresh batch of 2286 pilgrims left today for the holy pilgrimage to Amarnath cave shrine in south Kashmir amid tight security in the wake of recent threats and attacks on tourists.

The group, which left from the base camp of MAM stadium here, included 1463 men, 558 women, 116 children and 149 'sadhus', officials said.

Despite threats and attacks from terrorist outfits, a huge number of pilgrims que up for their 'Darshan' of ice Lingam of Baba Amarnath at the holy cave of Himalaya.

The pilgrims left in a fleet of 97 vehicles from the stadium at 0500 hrs today, they said, adding they were escorted by security personnel.

As many as 21,644 pilgrims have left for the pilgrimage from here since the 'yatra' commenced on June 10.

However, bad weather conditions recently had suspended movement of pilgrims from Baltal, Pahalgam and Jammu camps from June 12-14 and on June 17.
