New Delhi, June 21 (UNI) The Jan Sangharsh Samiti, Burari village, today alleged misappropriation of funds in Harijan basties of Delhi.

Samiti president Ramphal Tyagi told a news conference here that no development work has been done in harijan basties of Delhi during the last decade. Instead, officers of the irrigation and Flood control Department and Harijan Welfare Board in conspiracy with elected public representatives have bungled funds of millions allotted for the purpose.

He said he had petitioned Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit to get the matter enquired by a high-level committee.

Mr Tyagi further said that in Harijan Basti located in Kamalpur-Burari, no development work has been carried out in the past decade while the government has stated that Rs 23.76 lakhs has been spent for the development of this Harijan Basti in the last two years. However, 23 residents of this Basti have given affidavits stating that no such development work has been carried out.

Mr Tyagi asserted that ignoring and neglecting of Harijans will not be tolerated and if the government fails to penalize the guilty persons, the Jan Sangharsh Samiti will agitate on the matter.
