Election to fill vacancy in Subhash Nagar ward of MCD on July 23

New Delhi, June 21 (UNI) The election to fill the vacancy in the Subhash Nagar ward of the Municipal corporation of Delhi will be held on July 23, the Delhi State Election Commission announced today.

According to a communication recieved from the state election commission, the by-election to fill the casual vacancy of councillor crom ward no 20-Subhash Nagar of the MCD, reserved for a Scheduled Caste woman, will be held on July 23.

The notification for the election will be issued on June 26 while July 3 will be the last date for the filing of nominations. The scrutiny of nominations will be done on July 5 while the last date for the withdrawal of candidature is July 8.

The counting of votes will be held on July 25, the commission said. Electronic Voting machines will be used for conducting the polls to the ward, the first time that the commission will make use of these machines for the conduct of a poll to a ward of the MCD.

The returning officer-cum scrutinizing officer for the election will be Deputy Commissioner (Transport) P C Chaturvedi.

The model code of conduct prescribed by the commission comes into force with immediate effect and shall remain in force upto the end of the process of by-election, namely the declaration of results by the returning officer.

The by-election was necessitated after the Supreme Court quashed the election of Sunita Bharti of the Congress from the ward on a petition by her BJP rival Meera Kawaria that Mrs Bharti had submitted a fake scheduled caste certificate in support of her nomination.
