New Delhi, June 21 (UNI) The Supreme Court today permitted Central Board of secondary education (CBSE) to revise the merit list for admission to MBBS and BDS courses.

A vacation bench comprising Mr Justice AR Lakshmanan and Mr Justice Altamas Kabir also ordered cancellation of the counselling which has already been done.

The order came on a petition filed by CBSE which has prepared a merit list for fifteen per cent All India Quota for Admission to MBBS and Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) courses.

The court passed a consent order and directed CBSE to publish it on website and newspaper by tomorrow that the counselling which already been done stands cancelled. Students will be informed through electronic media.

The fresh counselling for admission will take place on June 26, 2006. The court also directed that if for any reason it does not take place on Monday, the time for counselling admission may be extended by a week , colleges will also have to be informed.

The main sufferers are the students who had already been allotted seats and given admission from fifteen per cent All India Quota. But now they will have to undergo the selection process all over again.

The CBSE moved the court on the grounds that some discrepancies had crept into the merit list and hence there is some confusion regarding the order of merit in the list and hence the earlier merit list would have to be scrapped all together.New revised merit list shall be prepared by the CBSE for conducting fresh counselling.
