British national gets 10 years RI

Mumbai, June 21 (UNI) The special NDPS court today sentenced British national to 10 years rigorous imprisonment (RI) in a case registered against her for the recovery of 'hashish' during November 2002.

Special NDPS Judge P B Sawant convicted Daizy Angus (22), a fitness trainer, guilty of possessing and exporting 10 kg of hashish under sections 20, 28 and 29 of the NDPS Act and also slapped a fine of Rs two lakh on her.

A co-accused in this case Yoram Kadesh, an Israeli, was, however, acquitted from the charges as there was no evidence against him.

According to prosecution, while screening her baggage at the international airport here, inspection authorities found the contraband concealed in her bag. On physical verification, the authorities recovered 10 kg of hashish and arrested her.

On the basis of the information given by her, the authorities arrested Yoram Kadesh as she had in her statement said that she was carrying the drugs for him. However, she later retracted from her statement given to the sleuths that it belonged to Kadesh.

Both the accused have been in the judicial custody since November 2002.
