Bangalore, June 21 (UNI) The turnover in the Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) sector, growing at over 45 per cent in the country, is likely to touch 25 billion US Dollar by 2008, Karnataka Science and Technology Minister Ramachandra Gowda said today.

Delivering the keynote address in the absence of Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy at the two-day fourth Annual Service Quality Conclave, organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) here, he said that taking into consideration the vast opportunities in the BPO sector, there was a need to work out a strategy to tap the rich potential.

The Minister claimed that Karnataka was the first State to realise the rich potential and create the conducive atmosphere to take advantage of it. The service sector contributed over 50 per cent of the total State GDP and was still growing, he added, reminding the stakeholders in the service sector to ensure standard and quality mixed with culture to sustain it for a long period.

Hutchison Essar Ltd Deputy Managing Director Sandip Das, who also spoke on the occasion, said India was emerging as a world leader in the service sector across industries like hospitality, airlines, tourism, financial services, courier, telecom and IT industries.

India was emerging as the service factory of the world and to retain it, the Governments should play a key role by creating supportive environment, he opined.
