London, June 21 (UNI) Rohan Bopanna and his Davis Cup team mate Prakash Amritraj could not make it to the main draw of the men's singles event at Wimbledon after losing their second round qualifying matches in contrasting manner.

Bopanna could not pose any threat for his American opponent Robert Kendrick who played percentage tennis and that was enough to carve out a 6-4, 6-4 win against the big serving Indian.

In the first round, Bopanna had come out with a better show, beating higher ranked Czech Tomas Cakl 6-3, 6-4.

Son of the legendary Vijay Amritraj, Prakash was not ready to concede ground to Benjamin Becker and fought for every point. In the end, it was, however, the German who had the last laugh as he survived some torrid moments and a second set tie-breaker to move into the third round with a hard-earned 7-5, 7-6(7/4) win against Prakash.

The Indian had beaten Italian Massimo Dell'Acqua 6-1, 7-6(7/4) in his first round match.

In the doubles too, fifth seeded Bopanna and his Swede partner Johan Landsberg crashed out after losing their first round qualifying match to the Georgian-Serbian pair of Irakli Labadze and Dusan Vemic.

The Indo-Swede pair overcame a first set deficit to force the decider but could not stop their opponents to chalk out a 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 win.
