Bhambri sisters, Rushmi advance into quarterfinals
New Delhi, June 21 (UNI) Ankita Bhambri was stretched to three sets before the top seed overcame wild card Tara Iyer to advance into the quarterfinals of the 10,000 Jubilant Organosys ITF women's tournament here today.
In a second-round match here, Ankita downed Tara 6-1, 6-7(5), 7-5.
Sister Sanaa Bhambri and veteran Rushmi Chakravarthi were the other two Indians who made it to the last eight.
Saana defeated Geeta Manohar 6-2, 6-3 while third seed Rushmi overcame Vivien Silfany-Tony of Indonesia 6-2, 1-6, 6-2.
In other round two matches, Chun-Mei Jin of China defeated Poojashree Venkatesha 6-1, 6-3, while Lu Jing-Jing of China was given walk over by Vishakha Sheoran. Another Chinese Ren Jing thrashed Shalini Sahoo 6-4,6-1 while Indonesian Sandy Gulmulya defeated Sanjana Kapoor 6-2, 6-0. Indonesian Lavinia Tananta defeated Meghna Vakaria 6-2,6-1 to move into the next round.
In the doubles event, Sanaa Bhambri and Archana Venkatraman defeated Lam Po-Kuen of Hongkong and Sagarika Phadke of India to make into the semifinals. They will take on the pair of Rushmi Chakravarthi and Meghna Vakaria, who were given walk over by Shalini Sahoo and Vishakha Sheoran.
In the other semifinal, Lee Wei Ping of Singapore and Lu Jing Jing of China will take on the Indonesian pair of Suzanna and Vivien Silfany-Tony.
