Bandh over minor's killing fails to draw response in Varanasi
Varanasi, Jun 21: The 'Varanasi Bandh' call given by trader, voluntary and political organisations against killing of a businessman's minor son by his servant failed to evoke any public response today.
The trader bodies in association with voluntary organisations, besides Congress and BJP had called for the bandh to protest the murder of two-and-half-year old Chirag, son of hardware dealer Anil Bajaj, by his teenaged servant Ajay.
The strike, however, failed to draw public response except in the Dwashashamedh area.
Meanwhile, late last night, infuriated over the recovery of Chirag's body from the banks of Ganga here, local residents had stormed the Sigra police station and ransacked property alleging laxity by cops in the case.
SSP Ashutosh Pandey said cases had been registered against 150 persons in connection with the violence inside the police station.
Ajay had been arrested and he admitted to committing the crime, primarily for avenging his alleged daily torture at the hands of his employer.
The SSP claimed the servant had conceded to suffocating and stabbing Chirag near Sipahia Ghat under Ramnagar area on Monday after abducting him from Bajaj's residence the same day.
