New Delhi, June 21 (UNI) Under public criticism and police scrutiny since the Rahul Mahajan drugs abuse case hit the headlines, doctors at the city's Apollo Hospital today defended their colleagues who saved the life of late BJP General Secretary Pramod Mahajan's son early this month.

While pointing out that it was Rahul's attendants who brought him to Apollo in an unconscious state and with low oxygen and blood pressure levels early on June two, the Consultants Forum of the hospital said in a statement that there was no discrepancy in tests conducted by the hospital and Dr Lal's Path lab.

Amid the ''trial by the media'' of the Hospital was the story of how ''our colleagues through their hard work saved the life of a very sick young man'', it stated, while pointing out that Rahul was brought to Apollo with severe respiratory, hematological, renal, liver and metabolic dysfunction.

It questioned media reports of ''discrepancy'' in the laboratory reports by Dr Lal's Path Labs and by Apollo saying this allegation betrayed a lack of understanding of medical issues.

''There is no discrepancy in the reports, in fact, the reports are complementary and should not be looked at in isolation'', it stated.

The Hospital would not have sent Rahul's blood and urine samples to an independent laboratory for testing had the doctors intended to tamper with the evidence, it pointed out.

The doctors had ''shown exemplary control and courage and extended their fullest cooperation'' to the investigative agencies, it said.
