Allahabad, June 21 (UNI) The All India University Employees Confederation (AIUEC) today criticised the centre for privatisation of higher education and gradual reduction in funding of varsities.

AIUEC president B S Hota said the net result of privatisation was mushrooming of private varsities in the name of deemed universities and allegedly compromising quality of education.

''In 2005, the Supreme Court had struck down recognition to 115 universities in Chattisgarh alone,'' he noted.

Mr Hota informed the Confederation, which represents two lakh non teaching employees all over the country, was engaged in a campaign to highlight the adverse impact of globalisation on higher education in India.

He said in present day world, knowledge economy will dominate.

''Both India and China are advancing economy. To meet challenges of globalisation in higher education, China has embarked on a road map of bringing 100 varsities to world class level,'' he added.
